10×10 Opera Double Bill with City Chamber Opera

In this Opera double bill, soprano Erin Nafziger performs the role of Elle in Poulenc’s haunting La Voix humaine, and soprano Nellie Rustick performs Hermit Songs andKnoxville: Summer Of 1915 by celebrated composer (and Berkshire favorite) Samuel Barberin collaboration with pianist David Anderegg. Poulenc’s monodrama deals with life and loss, and the strength of women, while Barber’s pieces talk of the beauty of simplicity within daily life.  Set among soaring vocal lines complimented by rich accompaniment, both composers set a conversational tone paired with vibrant emotion, making this an afternoon that promises to be profoundly moving. Critics have praised Nafziger’s voice, saying: “I haven’t heard singing that good on the MET broadcasts all season. Such a beautiful voice and the musicianship to match!” About Rustick’s voice, critics have acclaimed that “Rustick has an exceptional instrument. Her voice is something unusually special and wonderful.”  There will be a free will donation at the door, and a reception with the performers following the performance
